The Pathfinders arrive at their destination, Oleg’s Trading Post, a place to rest and plan the group’s direction. However, the adventurers do not find rest long. After a brief discussion with Oleg and his wife Svetlana Leveton, it seems the couple have been tormented by bandits for some time. Mistaking the group of Pathfinders as the support Restov promised Oleg weeks ago, the merchants were happy to hear the heroes volunteer to deal with the bandit scourge anyhow.
It seemed a small band of bandits would be returning tomorrow to extort payment from the Levetons, and it was this opportunity that the Pathfinders thought it best to use to ambush the unsuspecting thugs.
Plans were made, and for their help, the Pathfinders found themselves fed a warm meal in addition to their free stay within the guest room. Fifty Gold pieces along with three alleged magical potions awaited the group as well provided they were successful in their quarrel with the bandits.
After settling into their positions as planned, the group waited. Just as Oleg informed, a small band of seven bandits came riding over the horizon from the south. Well hidden, the Pathfinders remained unseen and the thugs lazily strolled into the Trading Post unawares of the danger that lay just moments ahead for them. Immediately the brigands descended upon the Pathfinder’s wagon and hitched their horses to it claiming it as their own. The plan was to have most of the group hidden, and some of them acting as travelers utilizing the post like normal. Everything was working out until a few bandits became curious of the Leveton’s horse, “Claptrap”, making noises from within the stables. Upon investigating, the unlucky brigand tripped over the jittery horse’s water bucket and landed face first against a crate. Shaster the Gnome came out from her hiding spot within the heap of hay she was utilizing within the stables and went to work on tying up the now unconscious brigand. Unfortunately, the nimble fingers of the Druid was not quick enough as another thug rounded the corner to witness his friend being subdued.
It was at that moment that the group’s plans started to unravel. No longer possessing the element of surprise they had to act. Shaster tapped into the divine magic of the wild to entangle the entire area within the stables in thick vines to slow down her assailant. Quiver came to his friend’s aid and quickly let loose an arrow which flew true straight through the back of the bandit’s neck. The gnome sighed in relief as she watched the bandit fall to the ground and decided to dispel her magic.
Meanwhile, Oleg had already ran to the main gate, as planned the night before to close and lock it as a way to bar the bandits from escaping. Meanwhile, inside the main store of the trading post, the group battled the other four brigands along with their leader who had taken Svetlana into the Leveton’s bedroom to hold hostage.
The Pathfinders made short work of the clumsy bandits who have had most of their combat experience owed to fighting the helpless. Proving to be anything but helpless, one by one the bandits fell. Noticing their losses, one thug even surrendered and was quickly rewarded with an execution by a vengeful Nessie.
Knowing mercy was no longer an option, the last bandit was cut down in the store’s storeroom but not before landing a few stabs into Korgoth.
Realizing Svetlana Leveton was in grave danger, Dinoldar rushed to find the merchant’s wife being held by the bandit leader, who held a razor sharp dagger to the young woman’s throat. The young monk wisely took the thug’s threat to be true and stepped back. Time seemed to freeze as the Pathfinders desperately searched for options to saving Svetlana and stopping the villain from escaping. Necros quickly ducked behind the stock room’s door to await a chance to ambush the thug if needed.
However, before any solid plan could be enacted, Snowy the faithful animal companion of Penelope, leaped into the room and pounced upon the bandit mauling him to a bloody mess. It had seemed the threat had been thwarted, that was until the Pathfinders noticed the young Svetlana Leveton lay on the floor, and a trail of crimson red blood flowing quickly from her throat. It would be only moments until her life joined the many claimed by the ruthless Stag Lord Bandits.
